Experimental study on the development mechanism of short pitch corrugation using a downscale V-Track test rig

This paper presents an experimental study on the development mechanism of short pitch corrugation using innovative downscale V-Track test rig. Rail is reproduced in with two wavelengths 6.4 mm and 8.9 mm. Based measured wheel-rail contact forces, track dynamic behaviors, observations, consistent mechanisms are identified. It found longitudinal mode at 574 Hz induced force dominant for formation major wavelength provides first evidence indicating that rail vibration its contribute to corrugation.
